• Nautilus cases have complex, alternating brushed and polished surfaces with razor transitions — fakes go soft where the finishing gets hard.
• Any 'bargain' Patek without impeccable provenance should be treated as fake until a professional proves otherwise.

The seller's trap

There's a scam aimed at sellers too: the buyer who declares your genuine watch 'probably fake' to slash their offer, counting on your uncertainty. The defence is competition — when multiple registered dealers inspect the same listing, no one can talk the watch down unilaterally. If it's genuine, the other bids will say so.
