Caring for a Breitling: what matters most
Every modern Breitling movement is a COSC-certified chronometer, and the brand's cases are built like instruments — but chronographs are still the most abused complication in watches. Pushers and crowns are the entry points: keep them screwed down, and never work the chronograph underwater.
The Navitimer's slide-rule bezel is a precision ring that hates grit. Keep it clean and it stays silky for decades; let sand in and it grinds itself loose. Service intervals of four to six years keep the chronograph works healthy.

- Screw down crowns and pushers (where fitted) before any water exposure.
- Rinse the slide-rule or dive bezel with fresh water after outdoor wear.
- Don't polish the angular case edges — Breitling's sharp transitions show over-polishing instantly.

The universal rule: don't polish
Polishing removes metal — every pass softens case lines and rounds edges, permanently. Dealers and collectors pay premiums for unpolished watches and discount refinished ones. Honest scratches are expected and priced in; missing metal is forever. If you're preparing the watch for sale, clean it gently and stop there.
